Steven T. Schlegel, CPA, CFP®
In 2005, Steven founded the firm now known as SchlegelDunn when he partnered with Commonwealth Financial Network® to successfully launch his own financial consulting and investment management firm. Steven has more than 16 years of experience in the personal financial planning industry and holds both the CFP® (CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM Professional) and CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certifications. Steven graduated summa cum laude with a BBA in accounting and finance from Abilene Christian University in 1999. He is active with the Financial Planning Association and holds FINRA Series 7, 24, 63, and 66 securities registrations through Commonwealth Financial Network, as well as a life and health insurance license.
Before starting his own firm, Steven worked for Middleton Burns & Davis (now CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP), Fortune Financial Services (now Fortune Wealth Management LLC), and BKR Cornwell Jackson (now CFO4Life). The investment business of these firms included experience with Walnut Street Securities and LPL Financial.
Steven lives in Frisco, Texas, with his wife and two sons. In his spare time, he enjoys being with his family, reading, running, golf, sharing good food and wine with friends, church fellowship, and starting each day with a cup of strong black coffee.
Scott J. Schlegel, CPA, CFP®
Prior to joining SchlegelDunn in 2009, Scott worked for Lee Financial Corporation, a Dallas-based financial planning firm, as a capital strategist with a focus on helping clients develop and implement comprehensive planning solutions. He also previously worked as a corporate accountant and controller for ClubCorp. Scott holds both the CFP® (CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM Professional) and CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certifications. Scott graduated summa cum laude with a BBA in accounting and finance from Abilene Christian University in 1999. He is active with the Financial Planning Association and also holds FINRA Series 7, 63, and 65 securities registrations through Commonwealth Financial Network®, as well as a life and health insurance license.
Scott believes very strongly in a holistic view of financial planning and taking the time and effort to develop all areas of the plan. He feels that a good financial planner is not just an investment guru or “numbers guy,” but is also a counselor, advisor, coach, and friend. His areas of expertise include cash flow planning, financial independence and survivor needs planning, and planning for specific short- and long-term goals. He is passionate about connecting with and understanding his clients and helping them develop and reach their individually unique goals.
Scott lives in Dallas, Texas. In his spare time he enjoys weight-lifting, running, golf, reading, and being active in his church.
Brent J. Dunn, MMFT, LMFT, LPC, CFP®
In January 2010, Brent joined in the expansion of SchlegelDunn, working with the firm as an expert in the relationship between human emotions and finance. In 1999, Brent earned his master's degree in marriage and family therapy at Abilene Christian University and began working as an LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist) and LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor). He and his wife established a private practice in 2002, where he worked full-time assisting families, couples, and individuals seeking to improve relationship dynamics and personal growth. In 2006, Brent began a two-year certificate program in personal financial planning at Southern Methodist University and obtained the CFP® (CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM) certification in 2009. He also holds FINRA Series 7 and 66 securities registrations through Commonwealth Financial Network®.
Brent is passionate about helping others address the complexity of money. He is equipped to help our interested clients address their overall relationship with money, as well as the emotional and psychological aspects driving financial problems and slowing goal achievement. Brent offers perspective on shaping one’s money personality and how this approach might be significant in achieving life-long financial goals and freedom.
Brent lives in Plano, Texas, with his wife and two children. He is active in his church and also enjoys sports, reading, cooking, and spending time with good friends.
